About the Meteorite Inlay
The meteorite inlay in the MUSE is genuine Gibeon or Muonionalusta meteorite, a real iron-nickel alloy that fell from space and was excavated for use in jewelry. The pattern visible on the surface, known as the Widmanstätten pattern, formed naturally as the meteorite cooled in space over millions of years. That pattern can't be replicated synthetically; it requires the slow cooling rate only found in deep space.
Each meteorite slice is unique. The crystal pattern was set when the parent body cooled in zero gravity. The lines you see are real iron and nickel crystals etched and stabilized to bring out the contrast. No two meteorite rings look identical because no two slices of the meteorite look identical.
Care: meteorite is iron-based, so it can rust if exposed to prolonged moisture. The MUSE's inlay is sealed, but extra protection helps. Wipe dry after exposure to water, and avoid soaking in soaps or chlorine. With basic care the meteorite holds its pattern for decades.
